Dar es Salaam

Downtown Dar

Our group flew into the capital city of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam.  When we got off the plan at night, it was humid and warm.  The next few days we spent exploring the city.  The following picture is of the market place of downtown.

Roads of Outskirts of Dar

I use to complain about the roads and construction in Michigan, but not anymore after traveling on the ones of Tanzania.  Even in the city where they were suppose to be the better roads were pothole city.  I am surprised that the bus we road in stayed together.

Home of my Site-leader

The following couple pictures are of my site-leader's home in Dar that she is building to house visitors to the city.  We sat around her pool enjoying some fresh fruit juice that she had prepared.

Indian Ocean

The purpose of us staying in Dar for a few days was to get adjusted to the time difference and have a some fun trips.  We spent one of those days at a beach on the Indian Ocean, it was a beautiful resort.

Cultural Show

For our last evening in Dar, we visited a cultural show that combined the music of the many different cultures within Tanzania.  All of the traditional cultural music focused on drums and flutes.  This music was accompanied by traditional dance routines.  For one of the songs, they got my group involved in the dance.

Two flutes played with nose.
